A 72-year-old man from Atacadero was killed in a traffic collision Friday near Avila Beach. A man driving a ford F-250 truck crossed into another lane and struck head-on into a Mercedes van around 3 Friday afternoon.
That Nipomo driver is identified as 31-year-old Patrick McDuffee of Nipomo. He was arrested on suspicion of murder and causing injury while driving under the influence of drugs.
The man driving the van was pronounced dead at the scene. He has not been identified.
A 65-year-old woman from Atascadero sustained major injuries. She was transported to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center.
