In March of this year, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo announced they will be eliminating their swim & dive program.
This decision came from financial strain from the House vs. NCAA settlement agreement, resulting in at least a $450,000 loss per year for programs.
However, the swim and dive team was given the opportunity to continue if they could raise sufficient funds: 20 million dollars by June 15th.
Unfortunately Cal Poly president Jeffrey Armstrong announced that the funds raised fell short; the Save Cal Poly Swim & Dive Group raised only approximately 10 million dollars.
Armstrong said: “While I appreciate the significant annual support and revocable bequests that have been identified, the fundraising effort has fallen well short of the goal to reinstate the program. As a result, the university is unable to reinstate the swimming and diving programs.”
