One of the most knowledgeable law enforcement officials about gang activity is San Luis Obispo county sheriff Ian Parkinson. Before he was elected sheriff, Parkinson handled security for about ten years at the California Mid-State Fair, and a major concern was gang activity. During a recent appearance on Sound Off, a caller asked him about gang activity in the north county and the public schools in the county. He said there is gang activity in the north county, and they have the Gang Resistance Education And Training (GREAT) to address the issue.
