The San Miguel fire department announced they have implemented the new HAAS alert safety cloud.
This new technology was funded in part by a grant received from the California Office of Traffic Safety. HAAS alert is a public safety solution that alerts drivers using navigation systems that emergency vehicles are approaching or working on a scene. California’s move over laws require that drivers slow down and change lanes for active emergency vehicles.
The San Miguel fire department says, however “flashing lights and sirens often don’t provide enough warning to drivers, especially at high speeds or in poor visibility.” The new HAAS system will provide warnings through navigation apps, and in vehicle dashboards for some newer models. The system requires no action from drivers.
