THE SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY CLERK RECORDER’S OFFICE HAS PROVIDED AN INFORMATION PAGE ON HOW VOTING FOR CALIFORNIA’S NEXT SENATOR TO REPLACE THE LATE DIANNE FEINSTEIN WILL OCCUR IN THE MARCH PRIMARY AND NOVEMBER GENERAL ELECTION. THE TWO ELECTION PERIODS WILL HAVE A HEADING FOR THE FULL TERM OF THE NEXT U.S. SENATOR, WHOSE TERM WILL BEGIN IN JANUARY 2025. CURRENTLY, LAPHONZA BUTLER HAS BEEN APPOINTED BY GOVERNOR GAVIN NEWSOM TO SERVE IN FEINSTEIN’S SEAT. BUTLER’S POSITION TO SERVE THE REST OF FEINSTEIN’S TERM WILL ALSO BE ON THE MARCH PRIMARY AND NOVEMBER GENERAL ELECTION, EVEN IF THEIR TERM WILL BE FOR JUST A FEW MONTHS. THEY WILL BE SWORN IN TO SERVE BETWEEN NOVEMBER 2024 AND JANUARY 2025. VOTERS CAN EXPECT TO SEE A PARTIAL/UNEXPIRED TERM UNDER THE U.S. SENATOR HEADING IN MARCH AND NOVEMBER. 27 CANDIDATES ARE RUNNING FOR THE FULL TERM, AND 7 OF THOSE ARE RUNNING FOR THE PARTIAL TERM.
