The Cambria Christmas Market will not take place this year. The Cambria Pines Lodge will decorate for Christmas, but the hotel does not have a permit for the Christmas Market. Usually it runs from November 26th through December 23rd.
The market applied to San Luis Obispo county for a permit. It was approved October 22nd, but three appeals were filed against the decision by the planning commission, and that didn’t leave enough time for the hotel to get it on the agenda of supervisors. That’s because the appeal process allows for a 10-day period so people can appeal the supervisor’s decision to the California Coastal Commission. There’s simply not enough time.
Cambria attorney Russell Read filed an appeal because he says the market’s illumination doesn’t comply with county regulations. He cites other issues with noise levels, water use, inadequate fencing and traffic control.
Read also said that the market would spread covid. So this year, the Cambria Pines Lodge will decorate for Christmas, but there will be no German-style market.
