Monday night football game stopped abruptly in the first quarter last night after Damar Hamlin was injured. After making a tackle, he collapsed on the field. An ancient wooden sarcophagus was returned to Egypt by the Houston Museum of Natural Sciences. The repatriation is part of the Egyptian government efforts to stop the trafficking of its stolen antiquities. In 2021, they recovered more than 5,000 stolen artifacts. Several thousand people turned out for the Annual Polar Bear Dip at the Cayucos pier on New Year’s Day. More than one thousand people took a dip in the ocean. There was also an Avila Beach Polar Bear Plunge. That Avila Beach event is now in it’s 11th year.
More than 4,250 gallons of sewage were released in the ocean near Avila Beach on New Year’s Eve. That was caused by a sewage line blockage. The spill started around 5 Saturday afternoon and was stopped at 6:25. Part of Avila Beach was closed on New Year’s day because of that sewage leak.
