One of the world’s oldest gorillas has died at San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Vila turned 60 in October. She died Thursday surrounded by members of her family troop. Vila was born in the African Congo in 1957. She came to the zoo in 1959. She was moved to Safari Park in 1975.
The city was clearing up a sidewalk encampment December 22nd, when a crew threw a tent into the garbage truck. A homeless man inside the tent began screaming before they activated the hydraulic compactor. He was not injured. In San Francisco, an estimated 50 thousand people marched in the 14th annual walk for life Saturday. The event held a few days after the 45th anniversary of the us supreme court’s Roe versus Wade decision that legalized abortion. A similar event in LA the previous week attracted 35 thousand people.
Because it’s the fifth week of the month, no government meetings scheduled, although San Luis Obispo county is conducting a hearing tomorrow morning about recreation vehicles on the Oceano Dunes. That hearing begins at 9:00 tomorrow morning at supervisors chambers at the county government center.
Data shows that San Francisco police investigated 81,000 cases of auto break-ins over the past seven years. They made arrests in 13 of those cases.
